Because sometimes you feel like a nut (cue the music!), you'll want to stock up on these glazed almonds with their toasted-coconut coating, which just might remind you of a favorite candy bar sans the milk chocolate-and all that extra sugar.
Let's pause to give thanks to one Peter Halajian (eventually Peter Paul), an Armenian immigrant who created two of the most popular candy bars of all time from his small shop in Naugatuck, Connecticut in the first half of the 1900s. First there was Mounds, then Almond Joy, which was "indescribably delicious" according to the original brown-paper package.
Who knows why, but the sweet and nutty combination of almonds and coconut just works, and not just inside a wrapper (anyone for macarons?). Be careful when sharing; these treats are inordinately irresistible, so you might want to keep a secret stash just for yourself. Or buy extra. Preferably both the above.
