Golden Rule #1: To make a beloved snack taste even better, give it cheesey flavor. Consider these ultra-crunchy corn nuts exhibit A, since they fully satisfy the cheese mandate to a T.
Given their cult following here in the states, you'd think they were an American invention. But the credit for corn nuts must be given to the South Americans, who are likely to be found nibbling on their cancha or maiz tostado with Caipirinhas and ceviche-and that's an excellent tradition to adopt here, too, though beer and baseball is a solid choice, too.
As for their name, corn nuts are not nuts at all but large white corn kernels (the kind you find in Latin American markets and many supermarkets) that are toasted to give them a similarly crunchy, nutty appeal. In fact, corn nuts are a crunch-seeker's serendipity, since they are crackling as they come, but with a little give on the inside.
Corn nuts come in a smattering of flavors, but this one will appeal to cheese lovers everywhere. Here's lookin' at you, kids.
